Mahindra & Mahindra, the home-grown automaker, has announced that it would launch the 2015 Thar facelift on 22nd July, 2015 in the country. It would be the second big upgrade for Thar since its launch in 2010. Mahindra Thar facelift was spied as test mule several times, and it has been learnt that the changes would be limited to cosmetic only. The mechanicals of the new Thar are likely to remain unchanged.

Going by the image, the rear canopy seems to be a bit tilted from the back, while the bumpers and fenders are redesigned. At the front, it would have a new plastic-metal bumper. The updated Thar SUV would have bigger foot-rests and fenders would witness an extension as well. As for interior cabin, it would come in a new dual tone color scheme. The A/C vents would have silver finish, while the instrument cluster would be a three-piece unit encircled with chrome, as seen in the company's flagship offering XUV500. The seats of the new Mahindra Thar seems to be larger than the current model. The centre console, which comprises of hand brake, gear lever and transfer case, comes with a beige cover. In addition, steering wheel, gear knob and air-conditioner controls have been sourced directly from Bolero SUV.

Mechanically, the Mahindra Thar facelift, would come with the same set of diesel motors. The Thar facelift would continue using the 2.5-litre DI unit which generates a maximum power of 63bhp and peak torque of 182.5Nm. The high-end and powerful variants of the Thar would be powered by the 2.5-litre CRDe engine, that churns out 105bhp of top power and 247Nm of peak torque. Both these engines would be linked to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the Thar would be available in both 2WD (rear wheel drive) and 4X4 drive systems.
