Eleven-year-old Lucy Li will tee off at Pinehurst on Thursday to become the youngest qualifier to compete at the US Women's Open.
Li would beat the record held by fellow American Lexi Thompson, who qualified for the 2007 tournament at the age of 12.
According to The BBC, Li would be competing with the likes of South Korea's Inbee Park, who would defend her title in a field, which also includes world number one Stacy Lewis.
Lewis, who is the 2013 British Women's Open champion, has been particularly outspoken in her disapproval of Li's participation, saying she is not a big fan of it.
Lewis said that she likes to see kids learn how to win before they come get beat up out at Pinehurst, adding that if it was her kid, she wouldn't let her play in the US Open qualifier at 11 years of age.
