At least 12 people including 10 security men were killed and 17 others injured when a bomb hit security forces' vehicle in Pakistan's southwest Quetta city on Thursday morning, local officials said.

Fayyaz Sumbal, the deputy inspector general police, said that some unknown militants targeted a vehicle jointly used by Balochistan Constabulary, a local paramilitary force, and police with a remote controlled device at northern Bypass area of Quetta, the capital city of the country's southwest Balochistan province.

He said that the bomb carrying an estimated 100 kg of explosives was fixed in a roadside parked car that was detonated as soon as the security vehicle passed by it.

In the blast, five people died right on the spot while seven others succumbed to injuries at Civil Hospital Quetta, to which the injured people were shifted by local police and rescue workers.

Hospital administration said that the injured people include 12 security personnel and five civilians.

Local authorities imposed emergency at the hospital to ensure best medical treatment to the injured people.

The powerful blast completely destroyed the vehicle and several nearby shops.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
