A new report has revealed that as many as 16 Pakistani journalists have gone into exile since 2010 due to work-related persecution.

According to the data collated by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), the total number of journalists who had to flee their homeland worldwide was over 450, reported the Dawn.

The report, which included only those journalists who were forced to flee due to work-related persecution and remained in exile for a period of at least three months, named Syria as the most dangerous country for journalists. At least 101 scribes had fled the war-torn country in the last five years, followed by Ethiopia and Iran, with 57 and 52 journalists going into exile from these countries, respectively.

It also said that threat of being jailed was the prime reason behind journalists leaving the country and accounted for 42 percent of the exiles.
