A new survey has shown that 20 per cent of Australians believe that a woman is partly responsible for rape if she is drunk.
According to a national survey, one in six Australians supports the notion that women say no when they mean yes and 20 per cent believe a woman is partly responsible for rape if she is drunk, News.com.au reported.
The survey by VicHealth also found that half the number of people believe that a woman could leave a violent relationship if she really wanted to, even though that was the time she was most likely to be killed.
Speaking about the bizarre findings, VicHealth chief executive Jerril Rechter said changing attitudes could take time similar to seatbelt, anti-smoking and sunscreen campaigns, but added that a key to changing attitudes was for men to stand up against sexism when it occurred and develop empathy for women.
