The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council's 27th meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley via video conferencing, is underway in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The GST Council is likely to clear the imposition of sugar cess, approximately between two to five percent, sources from Ministry of Finance told ANI.

The Council is also expected to discuss increasing the government's stake in the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), and also the simplification of GST returns.

Another important matter likely to be reviewed is the applicability of GST on airport duty-free.

The meeting is expected to get over around 1:00 pm.
