The Supreme Court on Monday directed senior advocate Prashant Bhushan to reveal the source of information regarding the visitors at the residence of CBI Director Ranjit Sinha, who has been has been accused of meeting persons linked to the 2G spectrum scam.

Bhushan said the apex court has directed him to submit the name and address of the whistle-blower in a sealed envelope.

"Today the Supreme Court heard the case involving the CBI Director, where the centre for the Public Interest Litigation has filed an application for his removal from the 2G investigations. On account of the fact that he has tried to destroy the 2G case, by trying to file an affidavit supporting the case of the accused at the flag- end of the trial. Despite the fact he was told by the special prosecutor Lalit not to do so," Bhushan said.

"We have filled the entry register of the CBI Director's resident which shows that he met the accused in the 2G case at his residence, multiple times," he added.

"Ranjit Sinha's lawyer argued that this application filed should not even be examined without the centre and without I disclosing the source of the information about these facts. I told the court there is no relevance as to who gave the information. What is relevant is whether the information provided is true or not, which can be easily verified by looking at the original file as well as by examining the officers who are posted at the entry gate," he added.

The next hearing on this matter will take place on September 22.
