At least four people including two suicide bombers were killed and seven others injured on Monday when some militants stormed a police headquarters in Pakistan's northwestern district of Kohat, local media reported.
According to the reports, three militants attacked the police personnel who were guarding at the main entrance of the police headquarters by throwing hand grenades and opening fire at them.
In the attack one policeman was killed while eight others including a policeman were injured.
Police retaliated with intensive firing and killed all the three attackers who were trying to enter the building, where dozens of policemen and civilians were present.
Police officials said that the assailants were armed with automatic guns and hand grenades, with two of them wearing explosives jackets.
The attackers' main target was to reach the central building where high-ranking police officers were having a meeting, but their attempt was foiled by police guards.
Bomb disposal squad diffused two suicide jackets and nine hand grenades which were recovered from the militants.
Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the central hospital of the city.
Police and security forces cordoned off the whole area and launched a search operation to arrest the aids of the assailants.
No group or militant organization has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Earlier in the morning, some unknown armed people attacked a police check post in the southern district of Kashmore and killed three personnel.
The incidents took place on the day when representatives of the country's major political and religious parties were having an in- camera meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in chair to devise a national strategy to deal with terrorism, extremism and militancy in the country.
