6 magnitude quake strikes near coast of Ecuador

A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.0 has struck near the coast of Ecuador on Sunday, the local media reports.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter was about 12.5 miles from Bahia de Caraquez at a depth of about 15 miles.

There was no immediate report if there were any injuries or damage in the South American country.

Bahia de Caraquez is about 220 miles west of Ecuador's capital, Quito.
