The 66th Army Day is being celebrated across the country today.
The day is celebrated to pay homage to brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for protecting the country.
The first Army Day was started in 1948 when General K. M.Cariappa succeeded British Army General Roy Butcher as the first Commander-in-Chief of independent India.
It is observed at all army command headquarters and is marked by parades and other military shows.
The main function is held at the Parade Ground in New Delhi. Incumbent Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh will preside over the parade this year.
