The supporters of Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav are performing a 77-day yagna to seek divine blessings for the veteran leader's 76th birth anniversary.
The programme began in Ayodhya's Shri Krishna Gaushala onNovember 22 last year when the SP supremo celebrated his 76th birthday in Rampur.
Several priests are taking part in yagna which is set to end today.
Among the organizers are district SP president Jay Shankar Pandey and SP leader Ashish Pandey.
"We have organised this yagna with elaborate rituals for Mulayam's health and longevity," Pandey told ANI.
Earlier, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had demanded a ban on the yagna being performed for Yadav.
The SP has created a stronghold in Faizabad-Ayodhya having won four out of five Assembly seats in 2012 even though the Lok Sabha seat was won by BJP's Lallu Singh in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
