AAP has turned Jan Lokpal Bill into a 'political toy': Naqvi

Commenting on the repeated threats of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to resign if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed in the Delhi Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made the bill a 'political toy'.

BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said: "It is very sad to know that the party, which was formed because of the Jan Lokpal Bill, has made this bill a political toy."

"They have turned the Lokpal into a 'Jokepal', and now everybody is laughing on them. They should respect the constitution and certain provision which are provided in it," he said.

Naqvi reiterated that the AAP should take all the parties in to confidence before they table the bill in the Delhi Assembly.

"Now they are threatening to resign in order to show that they are making a big sacrifice. They formed the government not because we told them to do so. It was their own decision to form the government with Congress's support. Now, it will be their decision to quit," he added.

The Delhi Government will now table the Jan Lokpal bill today.

On Thursday, Kejriwal had repeated his threat that he will resign from the Chief Ministership of Delhi after the Delhi Assembly was disrupted by protest from the Congress and the BJP demanding the sacking of Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti over a series of controversy.

Later in the day, Kejriwal had said that the disruption in the Delhi Assembly exposed nexus between Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who have been brought together by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

"Today there was match fixing between the Congress and the BJP. Both the party members are working together and are trying to defend Ambani but have failed to do it," he had said.

"Congress says that it is supporting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) but it is actually supporting the BJP. It was a well coordinated move. The BJP and Congress both kept coming to the well at a break of five minutes. After that both the parties started suspending the power of the speakers," he had added.

The Delhi assembly was disrupted as BJP MLAs trooped into the well of the house demanding resignation of Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti, in context of the midnight raid conducted by him involving African women, forcing the speaker to adjourn the proceedings twice.

BJP legislators objected to the speaker's reference of "special session" to the proceedings in his introductory address. They demanded for it to be addressed as the budget session.

The session has been called for passage of contentious anti-corruption legislation Jan Lokpal Bill and Swaraj Bills proposed by Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government.

The notice was read out by speaker MS Dhir.

The speaker had told BJP members that his ruling would be given after getting Bharti's response. But BJP MLAs started protesting against Bharti beforehand and trooped into the well of the house.

Kejriwal had on Sunday threatened to resign from the Chief Ministership of Delhi if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed in the Delhi Assembly.
