Australian golf ace Adam Scott bagged the finals over Jason Dufner in the US PGA Tour's Colonial tournament to live up to his new World No. 1 rank after he dethroned injured former champion Tiger Woods last Monday.

Scott reportedly cemented his No. 1 status in style as he rolled in a seven-foot birdie putt at the third playoff hole. The Australian was playing as the world's top player for the first time.

According to News.com.au, Scott's hopes of maintaining the top spot looked a bit shaken after a first-round one-over 71 at Colonial Country Club on Thursday, but the 2013 Masters champion made a come back and had headed into Sunday's final round tied for 11th but just two shots off the lead.

Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson, ranked at the third place in the world rankings, had been reportedly struggling to move past Woods and Scott to grab the top spot and had a silver lining after he finished tied at the seventh place earlier on Sunday in the European PGA Championship at Wentworth won by Rory McIlroy.

With McIlroy claiming the European PGA Championship, Scott reportedly required a top-13 finish to stay atop the rankings and the Australian went on to win the Colonial tournament despite having been signed for four-under par 66s in the final round for nine-under 271.

Scott, who sank a clutch 14-footer from the fringe at 17 to put the pressure on Dufner to make his four-footer, said that to kind of fight his way back into this tournament around this golf course, it is a real honour for him to win here.

With this win, Scott has become the first player on the PGA tour to have won all four Texas events the Byron Nelson, Texas Open, Houston Open and now Colonial, the report added.
