The Afghan Taliban on Tuesday has announced to start of their spring offensive in the region.
In a statement, the Afghan Taliban said that large-scale attacks on enemy positions would be employed across the country during the offensive which they dubbed as "Operation Omari" in honour of the movement's late founder Mullah Omar, whose death was announced last year, reports the Dawn.
The annual spring offensive normally marks the start of the fighting season. However, during this winter, for the first time, they continued to battle government forces without a seasonal break.
The insurgent group has been waging war against the state since being toppled from power in 2001.
