Hours after suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy resigned from all party post and Rajya Sabha membership, party general secretary Partha Chatterjee said, after coming under CBI's scanner, the former realised that he has no respite other than the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"The day the CBI went after him, he realised that other than BJP he has no respite," Chatterjee said in a press conference.

Roy was questioned by CBI in January 2015 in the Saradha ponzi scam.

The TMC co-founder submitted his resignation earlier in the day to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

"With deep pain in my heart, I do hereby submit my resignation from Membership of Parliament, Rajya Sabha with effect from afternoon of 11th October , 2017," Roy said in the resignation letter.

Addressing a press conference here, Roy said that he was compelled to quit TMC "with a heavy heart".

"Today I am resigning from RS membership elected as a member of TMC, also from all posts of TMC as a primary member. With heavy heart and heavy pain, I am compelled to submit my resignation," he said.

Roy was earlier suspended from the TMC for anti party activities, soon after which, he resigned from the party's working committee.

The speculation were rife that Roy may join the BJP), however , the leader said that he has yet to decide his future course of action.

"I have resigned, now I will go for leaves and then decide my future course of action," he told media after his resignation.
