Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the NDA Government of 'snatching' the proposed food park in Amethi away from farmers, labourers and other oppressed communities.

"The food park would have transformed Amethi and the neighbouring few districts. The farmer, who sells his produce in a 'mandi' today, could have sold it directly to a factory. He would have received a better price and would have benefitted. However, the Modi Government has snatched that away from the farmers, the labourers, the oppressed," Gandhi told ANI.

"We will do our best to pressurize them into bringing the food park back," he added.

Gandhi had earlier accused the Centre of blocking the food park and termed it a case of 'revenge politics'.

However, HRD Minister Smriti Irani accused him of 'misleading' the people of Amethi on the issue.

Gandhi is currently on a three-day visit to Amethi, his first visit since December 2014.
