Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Saturday avoided commenting on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioning Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's close aide and BJP leader Amit Shah in connection with 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, and said that the investigating agency is doing its job.
"I don't control the CBI, it's their job," he told media here.
Acting on the recent claims made by jailed IPS officer DG Vanzara that the Modi Government was 'inspiring, guiding and monitoring' every police action from 'very close quarters', the CBI earlier today grilled Shah in connection with the Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
Vanzara had earlier said that Modi and Shah did not protect Gujarat's policemen while pursuing their respective political agendas, and stated that he was shocked and dismayed over the state government not backing him when his name was linked with the fake encounter cases.
He charged Shah with using the state police machinery to gain political mileage and the ability and right to literally rule the state.
Seven policemen have been accused of charges that include conspiracy, murder, and destruction of evidence.
Ishrat Jahan, a 19-year-old college girl from Mumbai, was killed in an encounter along with three others on the outskirts of Ahmedabad in 2004.
