Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah appealed to Maharashtra's Other Backward Class (OBC) community here on Friday to take forward late Gopinath Munde's goals for the welfare of backward classes under his daughter Pankaja Munde's leadership.

"Under the leadership of Pankaja Munde, the OBC community of Maharashtra should unite and work towards goals of late Gopinath Munde," Shah said while addressing a rally in Bhagwangad.

"When the Narendra Modi government was formed, there were two ministries related to the poor, the Gramin Vikas and Panchayat Vibhag, both of them work for the justice of the poor, and Narendra Modi gave the responsibility of both ministries to Gopinath Munde as nobody else can think for the poor more than him," he added.

He also promised that his party will put in as much effort as possible for the welfare of Bhagwangad, as Prime Minister Modi's strategy was to work most for the poor.

Prior to Shah, Pankaja Munde also addressed a rally at Bhagwangad.

Maharashtra will go to polls on October 15, while the counting of votes will take place on October 18.

Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, the state recently witnessed the breakup of two major political alliances over the seat sharing issue, one of them being the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena and the other one being the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Now, all four parties will be contesting individually in the assembly elections.
