Hashim Amla scored his 13th ODI century and helped the Proteas register a 75-run win in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
Amla, who shared a 151-run stand with captain AB de Villiers, smashed eight boundaries and a six in his knock. De Villiers scored a brisk 75 off 70 deliveries which five boundaries and a six. The impressive performance of the batsmen helped South Africa pile up 304 for five in 50 overs.
Ajantha Mendis notched up three crucial wickets for Lanka, including that of Amla.
Batting second, Lanka was bowled out 229 in the 41st over. Sangakkara top scored with 88 runs for the Lanka.
African spinner Imran Tahir took 3-50 and was supported well by Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Ryan Mclaren, who claimed two wickets each.
The second ODI will be played in Pallekele on Wednesday.
