Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh paid tribute to the mortal remains of Naik Damodar Thapa of the Gorkha Rifles.
Thapa died fighting terrorists near the Line of Control in the Tanghdar Sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara District on August 6.
The army had launched an operation in search of terrorists on August 5. Naik Damodar Thapa was leading his platoon when they came across the terrorists.
In the heavy exchange of gun fire between the two sides, Thapa attained martyrdom. Three terrorists were also killed during the encounter.
The wreath-laying ceremony took place yesterday here. Many senior serving army officers also paid homage.
Naik Damodar Thapa's mortal remains are being sent to his hometown in Nepal.
