The Indian Army on Tuesday assured of justice in the Budgam firing incident and stated that an inquiry has been ordered under the supervision of a senior Colonel to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

"The enquiry into the incident has already commenced. A Colonel has been appointed to carry out the enquiry. All the witnesses have been attached to the location of the enquiry so that it can happen without any interruptions. The idea is to get it over with expeditiously and arrive at the causes of the circumstances as to how this has happened," Lieutenant General Subrata Saha, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps told ANI.

"We are looking to see that there is no recurrence of such incidents. That is exactly one of the issues that the enquiry would also be looking at," he added.

Lieutenant General Saha also assured that that justice will be done in this case.

On Monday, two people were killed and another two injured after soldiers opened fire on the occupants of a car at a checkpoint.

According to reports, the personnel alleged to be involved in the incident were moved to the location of the enquiry. The Deputy Commander conducting the enquiry has been tasked with completing the investigations at the earliest.

The condition of the two injured persons, Zahid Abdul Naqqash and Shakir Ahmed Bhat, who were rushed to the 92 Base Hospital after the incident, is reportedly stable. The army is also in touch with the families of the deceased and has assured all assistance to them in this hour of grief.
