Piano recital turned into a nightmare for a Manhattan socialite after he discovered that someone had stolen USD 1 million in artwork from his home.
According to local media reports, Alexis Gregory, 81, invited had 26 guests for the piano recital, which was followed by an art exhibition last Friday.
Gregory said he was very upset as nothing like this has ever happened to him.
"I hope it doesn't happen again," he added.
According to investigators, Gregory's housekeeper was the first one to notice the theft after the guests left from his house. As many as eight golden figurines, which were more than 400 years old, were missing from his collection.
His message to the thief: "If [the art doesn't] come back, I will do my best to put them in jail."
Gregory is an art collector and publisher by trade.
An investigation into the matter is underway.
