Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the attack on an army camp in Kashmir's Uri sector highlighted the desperation of militants to disrupt peace and normalcy in the state.
"JK Police and army are responding to the attack in Uri. Once again shows the desperate levels militants will go to disrupt peace and normalcy," Omar said in a tweet.
"Militants have struck an army camp in North Kashmir between Baramulla and Uri. Security force casualties are feared. It's an ongoing encounter," he added.
Meanwhile, Brigadier (Retd) Anil Gupta on his part expressed concern over the recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the Pakistani Army and the ISI have become desperate, and added that they want to disturb the assembly polls at any cost.
"This is clearly evident that the Pakistani Army and its ISI have become desperate and they are disheartened by the large voter turnout in the first two phases of assembly elections and at any cost want to disturb the elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, they are making repeated attempts for infiltration," said Brigadier (Retd.) Gupta.
"Earlier, they tried on the international border, twice they have tried on the LoC and all the times they have miserably failed because they have been held back or captured quite close to the LoC or the international border. So, therefore, it is very evident that they are desperate but the Indian army and the Indian forces are very alert and determined to foil any such attempt," he added.
Brigadier (Retd.) Gupta further said it looks that this was a planned attack because the basic aim is to draw international attention towards Kashmir and send a message that Kashmir is still a boiling and flash point and that is what their leaders have also been drumming at various international events.
Earlier today, five Army jawans and two police personnel were killed after six militants attacked an Army camp at Mohra in Baramulla district.
The attack comes just four days ahead of elections in Uri and six other constituencies of the Baramulla district on December 9.
