Australian High Commissioner to India, Patrick Suckling, will inaugurate the Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration at the Jawaharlal Auditorium, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on November 8.
It coincides with the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference of the Indian Society for Trauma and Acute Care (ISTAC) - "TRAUMA 2013".
At the event, AIIMS will sign an MoU with the National Trauma Research Institute, Melbourne, and launch the Australia-India Trauma Systems Collaboration (AITSC) website.
AITSC is a Grand Challenge project supported by the Australia India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF). The project 'Reducing the burden of Injury in India and Australia through development and piloting of improved systems of care' will run for three years.
This collaboration will help India and Australia develop world-class trauma care for those who need it most, such as people badly injured in road traffic accidents.
The Australian Government has supported the Australian partners, led by Professor Russell Gruen from Monash University, with a funding of approx. AUD 2 million.
The Government of India supports the participation of the Indian researchers in the project, led by Professor M C Misra, Chief JPN Apex Trauma Centre and Director AIIMS, and Dr. Amit Gupta, Addl. Professor Trauma Surgery, AIIMS.
The AISRF is a major initiative of the governments of Australia and India to strengthen collaboration in science and research.
The AISRF has supported more than 100 high-quality joint projects and workshops spanning a broad range of areas of science.
The AISRF Grand Challenge Fund supports collaborative projects of significant scale and ambition that will deliver practical solutions to key challenges shared by both countries.
