Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka has raced ahead to the US Open semi-finals by beating Slovak Daniela Hantuchova 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
According to ABC News, the Belarusian ace will face 83rd-ranked Flavia Pennetta, who defeated 10th-seeded compatriot Roberta Vinci, in the semi-finals.
The report further said that Azarenka might face world no.1 Serena Williams in the finals at New York if she defeats Pennetta and if Williams takes out fifth-seeded Li Na on Friday.
According to the report, Azarenka, who is the only woman under the age of 30 to make the final four at Flushing Meadows, is one of only three women to defending champion Williams this year and is the only woman to beat her twice in 2013.
Williams won the title here last year with a three-set win over the two-time Australian Open champion from Belarus, the report added.
