United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has warned any military strike against Syria for alleged chemical weapons attack last month will lead to more turmoil in the war-ton country.
He said that any 'punitive' action taken against Syria would also be illegal without UN Security Council or a sound case for self-defense.
According to CBS News, the United States and France have blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime for the alleged August 21 attack and are considering military action in response.
The Secretary General said that the Security Council has primary responsibility for international peace and security.
He added that the use of force is lawful only when in exercise of self-defense in accordance with article 51 of the United Nations Charter and or when the Security Council approves such action, the report said.
According to the report, he also warned that a military strike against Syria could unleash more turmoil and bloodshed in a crisis that has already killed more than 100,000 people.
