The high court of Bangladesh has declared the registration of the largest Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party as illegal.
Earlier, the High Court bench headed by Justice ABM Khairul Haque on January 27, 2009 had issued a rule asking the Election Commission and Jamaat authorities to explain why the registration of the party should not be declared illegal.
Jamaat-e-Islami was founded by Sayeed Abul Ala Moududi in 1941.
