NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden's father reportedly denied the offer provided by the FBI to fly to Moscow where his son has been holed up for over a month.
Snowden who has been stuck up at the Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport over a revoked passport is still awaiting the response of the Russian government regarding his temporary asylum request and the FBI offered to fly his father Lon Snowden to Moscow to try to meet his son, ABC News reports.
According to the report, Snowden's father declined the offer because he had no guarantee he would see him and said that when he asked if the authorities could set up communications with his son, the authorities told him they were not sure and that is why he refused to be an 'emotional tool' for the agency.
Snowden's lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, advising him in his bid for asylum in Russia said that he is trying to arrange for his father to travel to Russia and added that Snowden would appreciate the chance to see his father for moral support.
Kucherena further had said that Snowden's asylum decision is taking longer because of its special circumstances and if he is denied asylum, they will file a lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Snowden's father insisted that there is no chance of a fair trail in the US for his son who is facing espionage charges for leaking highly classified documents about NSA's secret surveillance programs.
