Bangladeshi national arrested in Lanka for smuggling gold

A Bangladeshi national, who attempted to smuggle eleven pieces of gold worth Rs. 5.7 million out of the country, has been arrested by the Sri Lankan Customs officials.

Acting on a tip, the Customs officials yesterday arrested the 42-year-old man with over one kilogram of gold at the Bandaranaike International Airport, reports the Colombo Page.

According to officials, eleven pieces of gold was concealed in his baggage and some more concealed in his shoes.

The gold seized weighed 1150 grams, the officials added.
