Barcelona are ready to make a 20 million-pound move for Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.
The Spanish giants will step up their attempts to sign a player they have been linked with for months, after identifying Kompany as their No. 1 summer target to strengthen their defence, reports the Mirror.
Barca have been alerted by Kompany growing unhappy at City under now-sacked manager Roberto Mancini and will now test the deposed Premier League champions' resolve to keep the Belgian defender.
It leaves City's boss-in-waiting Manuel Pellegrini facing a major battle to hang on to Kompany, when arguably the world's most famous club is desperate to sign him.
Pellgrini has already been linked with infamous Real Madrid centre-half Pepe, but City will be reluctant to let Kompany go without a major fight.
