English former footballer David Beckham's plans to build a stadium for his new Major Soccer League team in Florida have been brought to a halt by environmentalists who believe that it would upset the natural habitat of birds.
The construction of the stadium would upset the natural habitat of endangered species such as Roseate Spoonbill and other wildlife as they would be forced out of Miami's Biscayne Bay.
Laura Reynolds from the Miami branch of America's Tropical Audubon Society said that the construction would not only disrupt the wildlife but also tamper with the serenity of the area because of the constant rampant dredging and filling.
She further added that she would like a football team in Miami and there were plenty of other inland sites that would not cause a fraction of disruption.
According to the Daily Star, it's Team Beckham's latest plan after their first hope for a stadium in Port Miami ran into opposition from local unions. Currently he is faced by an expensive battle against the Biscayne Bay Coalition, an umbrella outfit containing at least a dozen protest groups.
A spokesperson from Beckham's team has attributed that authorities would undertake strict environmental studies and they would follow them seriously, thoroughly and transparently.
