Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stressed on the need for better technology for a more efficient judicial system and added that the judiciary should be both powerful and perfect.
"We do talk about pendency in judicial system, but have we ever thought for how many hours a court can function if there's no electricity? None of the responsibilities is one sided, the more we use technology in judicial system, the better it can function. Our judiciary should be both powerful and perfect," said Prime Minister Modi, while addressing a joint conference of Chief Justices of High Courts and Chief Ministers.
"Parents put lock on their treasury not because of the fear of thieves; lock and key are not a big deal for thieves. They put lock on treasury so that their children don't go down the wrong path. Hence, strengthening the freedom of institutions like the Election Commission and law institutions is very important," he said.
The Prime Minister also asked all the seniors in the Supreme Court to contemplate if tribunals actually help in improving the functioning of judiciary.
"I want all seniors in the Supreme Court to contemplate if tribunals are actually helping in improving functioning of judiciary. I want you all to put forward your opinion on the matter and think over it," he further added.
He further said that the people of the country have high expectations from the judiciary.
"We all are same kind of individuals carrying out different responsibilities as per our potential and capabilities. But this is not the case with people in judicial system, what they do is divine; God has sent you to carry out this divine responsibility. Which is why I believe, yours is an extraordinary responsibility and the people of the nation have high expectations from you," said Prime Minister Modi.
