BJP counters Congress' criticism of PM Modi's 'interview', takes on Gandhi family

Hitting out at the Congress for criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interview with an English news channel, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday attempted to corner the Gandhi family and asked if the top brass of the grand old party had ever addressed a press conference catering to the concerns of the people.

BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said the Congress Party obviously will oppose for the sake of opposition.

"If the Congress Party is so interested in giving advice, whether it's an interview or a press conference they should extend that to their own top leadership. I cannot recall when we have seen a press conference by their top most leaders whether it's Rahul Gandhi or Mrs. Sonia Gandhi or anyone else who might be fit for that press conference," Kohli told ANI.

"With regard to the Prime Minister, he is entitled to make a choice of when he wants to speak, what he wants to speak. He has spoken on virtually every matter that has been in public space and he has given clear answers," he added.

The Congress earlier today also took on Prime Minster Modi's veiled attack on BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for his continuous tirade against RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, saying the latter could have spoken much earlier and prevented the situation from escalating.

"We wish Prime Minister Modi had spoken earlier. Perhaps that would have prevented the situation from aggravating. What is happening in his party is for him and his party president to deal with, but these (Swamy) are gifts that they have given to themselves," Sharma told ANI.

The Janata Dal (United) without missing the opportunity took a dig at Prime Minister Modi and said the BJP led Government had left the nation's foreign policy to become a mere 'event management exercise.

"The Prime Minister has to defend his government and foreign policy. As far as foreign policy is concerned, people are asking if it is an event management exercise or if there is any strategic thought behind it. Especially, after the attack on CRPF jawans and 100 percent increase in terrorism, people want to know what is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign policy towards," Verma told ANI.
