BJP dubs SP's election manifesto as 'bundle of hollow promises'

Hours after the Samajwadi Party released its election manifesto for the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today attacked the first family of the state and called their manifesto a 'bundle of hollow promises'.

BJP state general secretary Vijay Bahadur Pathak told ANI that the Samajwadi Party is making desperate efforts to conquer the throne of Lucknow yet again courtesy the fake promises.

"The manifesto is nothing, but a bundle of hollow and fake promises. They won the elections in 2012 on the basis of several promises including unemployment allowance and distribution of laptops. Now, they are trying to lure the voters by promising Smartphones," said Pathak.

"The Samajwadi Party's governance has always been under the scanner due to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. They talk of 1090 and 100 helplines, but have done nothing to improve the security of the common man in the state. They are trying to come to power on the basis of these fake promises. But this time, the people have evaluated everything and consider this government as a failure," he added.

Commenting on the ongoing family feud in the Samajwadi Party, Pathak said, "It's a well-orchestrated family drama. The whole Saifai family is involved in this drama."

"It's the same thing whether the power is with the father Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav or son, the incumbent Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Ultimately, the power resides within the Saifai family," he added.

The BJP's outburst came after Akhilesh while releasing his party's election manifesto alleged that those promising 'acche din' gave broom in the hands of the public.

Expressing confidence of winning 300 seats in the electoral battle, Akhilesh promised to carry forward the developmental work initiated by his regime.

"They have made us do 'yoga' in place of 'acche din' and sometimes, gave us jhaadu (broom) while we waited for 'acche din'," he said taking potshots at the BJP.

Criticising the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), he said, "'Patthar waali sarkaar' has done nothing for UP but for erecting stone statues of elephants, its poll symbol. If BSP comes to power, its government will install bigger elephants."

The poll process in Uttar Pradesh begins on February 11. 73 constituencies in western Uttar Pradesh will go polls in this phase. The filing of nominations for these constituencies will end on January 24.

Uttar Pradesh is set to have seven-phase polling between February 11 and March 8.
