Congress Party leader Shakeel Ahmad has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running away from contesting the polls in Delhi.
He said the BJP is scared of contesting elections due to the non-performance of the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narender Modi.
Ahmad said, "It is very clear that the BJP is running away from polls in Delhi, because according to the BJP's internal assessment, they are going to lose the elections. The BJP is scared because of the non-performance of Prime Minister Modi's government in the last 102 days, and that is why they don't want elections."
He claimed that BJP MLAs in the Delhi State Assembly wanted to enjoy being in power without contesting elections.
He further said, "Presently, even the Lieutenant Governor (LG) is enjoying his post because of the BJP. The BJP doesn't want to take the risk of contesting elections because of the results of recently-held elections in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka where we have outperformed the BJP."
BJP national spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said, "It is going to be the decision of the party; whatever decision the party takes, we will call a press conference and inform."
"We may accept, but it all depends on various things, it is going to be the decision of the party," she added.
Delhi has been under the President's rule since February 17 this year after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had resigned over the non-introduction of the Jan Lokpal Bil in the State Assembly.
