Former district BJP vice president Vijay Pandit was shot dead in Greater Noida's Dadri area on Saturday night.
His body is currently being taken for the final rites.
The incident lead to violent protests and sixteen vehicles were set on fire near the police station.
According to the police, four unidentified persons came on two motorcycles and shot Pandit dead.
They also fired various rounds of bullet out of which one hurt the victim's chest.
The shootout took place at around 8:30 p.m.
Pandit was admitted first to Dadri's Mohan Swarup Hospital and then moved to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad, he was declared dead there.
