The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence over alleged cases of corruption bedeviling his Congress Party, and asked him to seek the immediate resignation of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, against whom a CBI and a Enforcement Directorate case has been filed for having money in excess of his known sources of income.
BJP leader Shrikant Sharma also lashed out at Rahul for attacking Prime Minister Modi-led Government, saying that the Congress vice-president was a 'hero' in making statements but a 'zero' in taking action.
"Rahul Gandhi had disrupted the previous session of the parliament by making false allegatrions. And now that Virbhadra Singh has been found to be corrupt, he is silent over it, this is shameful," Sharma told ANI.
"Making false allegations on Prime Minister Modi's government and keeping quiet of corruption of Congress leaders shows their dual standards. If Rahul has any morals left then he should immediately seek Virbhadra's resignation," he added.
A money laundering case has been registered against Virbhadra Singh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The case was filed under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after taking cognizance of a criminal complaint filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in September.
It is being reported that Singh and members of his family allegedly amassed 6.1 crore rupees between 2009 and 2011, disproportionate to his known sources of income, while serving as the Union Minister of Steel.
Apart from the Himachal Pradesh chief minister, the CBI has named his wife Pratibha Singh, LIC agent Anand Chauhan and Chauhan's brother C L Chauhan and charged them under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI had also carried out searches at various premises belonging to Singh and family immediately after the filing of the First Information Report (FIR).
