BJP will comment on government formation in Delhi only after LG takes decision: Shahnawaz Hussain

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Friday said his party will react to the ongoing speculation about government formation in Delhi only after Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung takes a final call on the issue.

Hussain said the people of Delhi want this political deadlock to end.

"This matter had also gone to the court. The ball is presently in the court of Lieutenant Governor. The Bharatiya Janata Party will react to this only after his decision," he told ANI here when asked to comment on speculation that the Lieutenant Governor has made up his mind to invite the single largest party to form the government in Delhi.

Hussain added that the BJP, which is presently the single largest party in Delhi, also wants this issue to be resolved as soon as possible.

Congress leader Manish Tewari, however, said the BJP may have the highest number of seats in the Delhi Assembly, but they are still short of the majority to form a government.

"If that is the case, then the BJP should have formed the government immediately after the polls. The BJP has the highest number of seats in Delhi Assembly, but they don't have the majority to form the government," Tewari said.

"The situation now is no different from what it was immediately after the Delhi Assembly elections results were announced. Why didn't the BJP form a government then?" he added.

On Thursday, the Lieutenant Governor denied taking any decision on government formation in Delhi.

"I haven't taken any decision yet, haven't sent out any signal. There is a possibility of everything," said Jung.

Delhi has been under the President's rule since February 17 this year after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister in protest against the Lieutenant Governor's refusal to allow the introduction of the 'Janlokpal Bill' in the Assembly.

The Supreme Court had earlier this month asked the Centre to take a decision on holding the Delhi Assembly elections following a petition filed by the Aam Aadmi Party asking for the dissolution of the Assembly and fresh polls.
