A 123-year-old cattle herder from Bolivia is believed to be the oldest living person in the world ever documented.
Carmelo Flores Laura, who has had no formal education and cannot speak Spanish, resides in a straw-roofed dirt-floor hut in an isolated hamlet near Lake Titicaca at 4000 metres, and has no teeth, News.com.au reported.
The Aymara native sees a bit dimly, and speaks the Aymara language with a firm voice, but is hard of hearing.
When Carmelo was asked the secret behind his longevity, he said that he walks a lot, consumes only barley, doesn't drink alcohol and has had a lot of mutton.
The Guinness Book of World Records claims that the oldest living person verified by original proof of birth is of a 115-year-old Japanese woman, Misao Okawa.
Moreover, the oldest verified age on record was 122 years and 164 days of Jeanne Calment of France, who passed away in 1997.
