Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, popularly known as 'baba' among his fans, turned 59 today.

Son of veteran actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt, he made his acting debut in 1981 and has since appeared in various Hindi films.

In his career spanning over 37 years, Dutt won two Filmfare Awards, two IIFA Awards, two Bollywood Movie Awards, three Screen Awards, three Stardust Awards, two Zee Cine Awards, and a Global Indian Film Award.

Four of his films have won various National Film Awards as well.

Hitting a low point in life, the 'Agneepath' star was arrested under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) in April 1993.

Charges of terrorism were dropped but he was convicted of illegal possession of weapons. After serving a sentence of -- years he was released on 25 February 2016 owing to good conduct.

Sanjay has been in the limelight for his biopic 'Sanju' starring Ranbir Kapoor, which is the biggest opener of 2018, so far. On the work front, Dutt's 'Saheb Biwi gangster 3' released earlier this week and is getting mixed reviews.

The 'Khalnayak' is also busy with his upcoming Telugu remake 'Prassthanam', which is currently being filmed in Lucknow.

He is also prepping for 'Shamshera', a film starring both the reel and real life 'Sanju' which will hit the big screens on July 31, 2020.

In the project, Sanjay Dutt plays Ranbir Kapoor's nemesis and the film also stars 'Befikre' actor Vaani Kapoor.

Celebrating his birthday eve, Sanjay and his wife Maanayata Dutt hosted a birthday party for a few friends from the industry, where the couple posed for the shutterbugs, in matching black outfits.
