Renowned Bollywood writer, Salim Khan, on Wednesday launched the Urdu version of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's official website in Mumbai.
Khan launched the website 'www.narendramodi.in' as a part of massive outreach programme to solicit support for campaigns for the ongoing general election.
Commenting on the issue of riots, Salim Khan said although there is no justification for what happened in Gujarat but one needs to move on.
"I know what has happened is wrong (2002 Gujarat riots) and no sensible or intelligent person can justify what has happened but it should have never happened and I am sure that Mr. Modi has learnt the lesson that till the time he is there no innocent will be killed," Khan said.
He further added that Muslims are safe under Modi while pointing out that no riots have taken place in Gujarat in the last 12 years.
Polls have consistently shown voters favouring Modi, a divisive but charismatic figure, to lead the country - gaining a vast difference over his main opponent Rahul Gandhi.
Man and myth often collide when it comes to Modi. His presence is ubiquitous after a meticulously stage-managed election campaign that has electrified the country and dominated the media.
Fashion designer and BJP leader Shania NC, who was also present during the website launch, said the portal is meant for two-way flow of opinions and contribution by an eminent scriptwriter like Khan will influence Modi's reach.
"The entire objective of Modi's website is to make sure that maximum people who read in Urdu, who understand the language, understand his philosophy and are able to express their opinions not as an ornamental portal but as a dialogue which is two-ways," she said.
The BJP under Modi's stewardship has promised to kick-start the economy, bring in factories, and educate the densely populated and still-poor heartland states of India.
