The British Government is reportedly planning to slash non-English speakers' benefits, in a bid to encourage immigrants to learn the language, and save thousands of pounds from being spent on translators.

The plan has been drawn up by Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith.

British Prime Minister David Cameron was set to announce the decision but delayed it following a disagreement with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, Daily Express reported.

Every year, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) spends 4.5million Euros on face to face telephone calls for immigrants in need of a translator.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said that one can not be a full member of British society unless the person speaks English and added that non-English speakers artificially reduce their chances of employment.
