A former senior British Muslim army officer has reportedly said that the British society, community and political leaders must share the blame for young men and women joining the ranks of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the two Gulf States.
Afzal Amin, chairman of the Armed Forces Muslim Association, a conflict strategist and a military adviser on winning "hearts and minds" in Afghanistan said that the political scenario in inner Britain has "disenfranchised" the young Muslims and has turned them into a "jihad generation" who have subscribed to a false version of Islam, reported The Independent.
He underlined the need to establish a counter-narrative with the help of senior religious and political leaders and also the Muslim youth.
Amin pointed out that the self-appointed Muslim community leaders have failed to guide the youngsters during their evolution from foreign-born and raised immigrants to native Britons and therefore, there is a need to begin democratic engagement with the minorities in the United Kingdom.
The 39-year-old Conservative parliamentary candidate for Dudley North also called for troops in Iraq to act quickly to diffuse the threat posed by the ISIS insurgency in the Middle East.
