Asserting that firing along the Line of Control (LoC) has not begun after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government took charge at the Centre, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Wednesday said that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi should not politicize sensitive issues.

Madhav pointed out that tension in the border area has been going on since a long time.

"The situation was the same when Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister..when UPA was in power. Rahul Gandhi is a budding politician so he will politicize everything," he said.

"If Rahul ji wants that the government should extend more help then it will definitely be done," he added while commenting on the Congress vice-president's suggestion that the Centre should extend help to the affected people in the border areas.

The Congress vice-presidenttoday visited the Balakote sector along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district and interacted with the victims of recent Pakistani shelling there.

Talking to the media later, Gandhi stressed that there should be a special insurance policy for the people living in border areas.

He also demanded from the Centre that the people affected by shelling should be given appropriate compensation for the loss of lives and property.
