The Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha on Tuesday reviewed the overall preparedness for the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) from July 1.

At a meeting attended by secretaries of 30 ministries connected with GST, Sinha asked all involved to take full responsibility of their stakeholders, and for the successful implementation of the GST.

The meeting also held video conferencing with about 167 Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) over GST.

The Cabinet Secretary expressed his satisfaction over the preparedness of different ministries and PSUs for the launch of the GST with effect from July 1.

However, Sinha asked the team members to leave no stone unturned for the effective and smooth implementation on the new tax regime by educating and involving all the concerned stakeholders.

The focus of the review was on the progress made by PSUs in getting ready for GST and preparation in their IT system as well.

Other aspects included the arrangements made by the departments for opening the GST Facilitation Cell and a Call Center to guide their respective client groups and vendors.

The Cabinet Secretary also asked the secretaries to organise outreach meetings and publicity campaigns through their departments and PSUs for explaining the provisions of new law and rules to their stakeholders, and other related issues.
