Canadian Treasury Board says Chinese spies hacked into the systems of a top Canadian government research organization.
According to the BBC, the government said that the computer infrastructure of the National Research Council was breached by a "Chinese state-sponsored actor".
The breach was confirmed by one of Canada's spy agencies.
However, the report was dismissed by the Chinese embassy in Ottawa, who deemed the allegation as "groundless".
The spokesperson for Chinese embassy, Yang Yundong, said that China-Canada relations have maintained a good momentum, and added that China was ready to work together with the Canadian side to create a peaceful, secure, open and cooperative cyber space.
While the Treasury Board said that there was no evidence that hackers had compromised data in other government systems, the board said the National Research Council's computers have been isolated from the rest of the government's systems as a precaution, the report added.
