Sunni militant outfit, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now called Islamic State (IS), has threatened FIFA President Sepp Blatter to withdraw the decision to hold the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar contending that the country will soon be a part of the caliphate.
According to the Daily Star, in a letter addressed to Blatter, the militant outfit has asserted that the Caliph of the Islamic state does not allow corrupt practices to flourish in the land of Islam and therefore, if FIFA refuses to change the venue, they will launch long-range Scud missiles at stadiums in Qatar.
The letter reportedly appeared on an IS platform online before it was published in a European newspaper.
The IS declared last month that it is establishing a new caliphate, or an Islamic state, on the territories it controls in Iraq and Syria.
