The Blind Car Rally for visually-impaired citizens began with much gusto in Nagpur on Sunday.
At the rally, though the vehicle was driven by regular drivers, they were being guided on directions by visually-impaired citizens using a navigator in Braille.
Around 100 visually impaired navigators were selected to drive across pre- selected city circuit.
"It started two years back. We get immense happiness while participating in it because we ourselves cannot drive the car but experience the car driving through others support. We read out the route map in brail script and they drive in that direction," said a participant, Mahadev.
The event, which is a flagship initiative of Nagpur Round Table 83, aims at making society aware of the challenges faced by visually impaired people.
Meanwhile, another car rally, Agra Taj rally, was flagged off in Lucknow to boost adventure tourism. The rally reached Agra on Saturday night and resumed its journey on Sunday morning.
The rally would cover a distance of 450km passing through Chambal, Jarar and Chakarnagar ravines.
"Yesterday, 75 people registered in it and 65 people completed the route. Today, 65 people are starting and will cover Bateshwar, Jarar, Pinahat areas," said official, Federation of Motor Sports of India, Sudev Brar, adding, "Yes it is ending in Agra, and in the night, prize distribution will take place."
Much to everyone's delight, physically impaired people also took part in the rally.
