Questioning the credibility of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in investigating cases involving top politicians, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Venkaiah Naidu today alleged here today that CBI is used to the practice of harassing political parties.
He accused the CBI of indulging in such practice in the Ishrat Jahan's case as also in clearing Mulayan SinghYadav in the disproportionate assets case.
Speaking to the media here on the reports relating to Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's disproportionate assets case, he said that CBI chooses to overlook certain cases even though they have direct evidence.
In November 2005, Rae Bareli advocate Vishvanath Chaturvedi filed a PIL in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the assets of Mulayam Singh Yadav, sons Akhilesh and Prateek, and daughter-in-law Dimple in which it was alleged that the family had acquired properties in Lucknow, Etawah, etc, worth over Rs 100 crore, which were disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The biggest challenge for Mulayam Singh Yadav, at the moment, is to get a clean chit in the disproportionate assets case. The Samajwadi Party supremo's review petition against an Election Commission order is pending in the Supreme Court.
