Gary Player, who is regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time, criticised the hosts of this year's U.S. Open, Chambers Bay, dubbing the tournament as a

'tragedy'.

The nine-time major champion said that 115th edition of the year's second major had been 'the most unpleasant golf tournament' he had ever seen, Sport24 reported.

Player said that there have never been so many people that missed the second-round cut and were so happy to go home.

Player said that it was actually a tragedy that the participants were having a putt from 20-30 foot and they were allowing 20 foot (of break) right and 20 foot (of break) left.

Chambers Bay, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened for play in 2007, stretches along Puget Sound and features the biggest elevation changes ever seen at a U.S. Open.
